Smudging is a sacred ritual that has been used by many cultures dating back centuries. It is a known, most commonly, to be a part of Native American tradition. It is practiced to cleanse and heal a person or space. Sage smoke is also antimicrobial and antibacterial. Smudging should always be done with intention, honoring the plants medicine.
Each bundle is wrapped in hemp string.
-Begin by expressing gratitude to the plant for its life and offering of its healing benefits.
-Light your sage or other bundle at a 45 degree angle for about 15 seconds. Gently blow out the flame leaving embers burning. Have a bowl or shell underneath to catch fallen embers.
-With intention, while using a feather or your hand to disperse the smoke, ask for the energy around you to be cleared. Invite in healing, clarity, and wisdom and anything else you'd like into the space. Sage clears a space and leaves it open, so it is important to fill the cleared space with new energy.
-Using a shell and feather while smudging is symbolic of connecting the elements. The plant represents earth, the shell water, the smoke & feather air and the flame while lighting is fire.
-Always use caution while burning anything in your home.
